SEA 05V Network/Computer Engineer

Network/Computer  Engineer
Candidate will be a mid-level Network Engineer with the technical knowledge in the design, implementation, and maintenance of networks on US Navy Ships/Aircraft Carriers.  The individual will focus on shipboard networks for Nimitz and Ford Class Carriers.
  • Must have a 4-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical area.
  • Must have minimum of five years of relevant experience as described below:
    • Systems engineering experience that includes configuration and installation of various network devices and services (e.g., routers, firewalls, IDS/IPS, switches, servers, etc.).
    • Competence in the development of network topologies.
    • Able to apply configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to network infrastructures.
  • Able to research and be resourceful.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of network architecture.
  • Thorough knowledge of network cybersecurity principles, policies, and standards
  • Be able to recommend improvements to network performance, capacity, security, and scalability.
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP and 802.11), routing protocols (e.g., BGP and OSPF), and network operating systems.
  • Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team.  Must be able to work with cross-matrix & multi-disciplinary teams.  Be able to build consensus with numerous stakeholders.
  • The individual will not have any direct reports.  The individual should be able to mentor junior team members, assist in explaining Cybersecurity aspects to interfacing system engineers and program office counterparts.  
  • Must have good problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Occasional travel to the VA Tidewater area to conduct ship visits and participate in meetings.
  • Experience with DoD or DoN cybersecurity, ATOs, and RMF would be a plus.
A WNY located candidate is preferred - this is a WNY position, and the individual should plan to work from the ESN WNY office or the WNY three days a week. If a non-WNY candidate is identified and selected as the best candidate, then the individual must be willing to travel to the WNY and work on-site at least 4 days per month. 
The individual must be available during core hours (east coast 0900 -1500).
One must have good technical writing and communication skills.  Must have interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. An Active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship are required.
