MCMS Systems Engineer

The engineering candidate will apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, and design, develop, implement, test and evaluate control, communication, and machinery systems and subsystems. The candidate will work with a team of engineers to oversee the construction and maintenance of Aircraft Carrier digital control system integration with a broad variety of hull, mechanical and electrical systems.

A Bachelor's degree in a related field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, other Engineering or Computer Science discipline) is required. Three years’ experience with US Navy, USCG or shipboard systems is required.

Job functions include, but not limited to:
 
  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Ford Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Digital, Networks, and Cyber System Engineering Manager (SEM)
  • Interfacing with engineering teams to arrive at best solutions to system discrepancies
  • Oversee varying project schedules, milestones, and deliverables
  • Develop risk assessments of system development and operation impacts
  • Develop guidance on integrating systems through technical and resource analysis
  • Learn and engage with team members on developing digital system security solutions
  • Apply configuration management best practices for large complex systems
  • Identify technical and procedural gaps and recommend improvement strategies
  • Work closely with project management team members to incorporate system repair and upgrades
Desired skills include:
  • Familiarity with aircraft carrier Machinery Control Systems and/or  Machinery Control & Monitoring System.
  • Ship Design, Shipbuilding, or In-Service support
  • Familiarity and experience communicating with the Technical Warrant Holders (TWHs), Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SOS), Program Executive Offices (PEOs), etc
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with the Navy Modernization process, including Ship Change Documents (SCDs), Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), Headquarter Modification Requests (HMRs), etc.
  • Familiarity with System Requirement Documents (SRDs), System Requirement Specifications (SRRs), Hardware Interface Documents (HwIDs), Software Interface Documents (SwIDs), Systems Development Plans (SDPs), Interface Design Documents (IDDs), etc.
  • Experience with specific Carrier systems including but not limited to Electromagnetic Valve Actuators, Networks and Internal Comms, Aux Systems, etc.

 
One must have good technical writing and communication skills.  Must have interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. An Active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship are required.
